A group of men fixing a cut telephone line cable in shallow billabong water were forced to chase crocodiles away so they could complete the job. Telstra technicians also had to put with leeches latching on to their arms and legs. The cable was accidentally cut by a contractor working a billabong a few kilometres south of the Adelaide River bridge, about 60km south east of Darwin. The cut affected nearly 3000 Telstra customers in Arnhem Land. Telstra said the men had to chase three small crocodiles out of the billabong so they could get the work done. The damaged cable was under ankle-deep water and after the technicians located it, it took about 26 hours to get the phone lines up and running.
