Subsurface Utility Engineering Forum and Survey

Dear Members

Please find attached file of the Survey on Subsurface Utility Engineering and Standards Australia forum.

The night was very informative and NULCA was represented with close to 20 NULCA members making up a large proportion of people attending among othere where RTA, RailCorp, Telstra, Cardino. Many questions where raised for a unique Australian Standard to go further than the ASCE38-02. A committe will be formed as part of the Standards Australia process once a it is agreed that a standard is required.

This is a an ideal time for NULCA to represent the people working at ground level for these standards.

For the members that did not get a chance to attend I have been asked to write a brief summary.

SUE Subsurface Utility Engineering.

Very simply, several organisations are pushing to have standards set for different levels of underground service location using locating and surveying technics to accurately map and locate services. To Give you an idea of these standards they are using the ASCE 38-02 as a guide or possible implementation of this US standard. You can download this  standard (at a cost) from the ASCE website www.asce.org

Please note any question that you may have if you could submit them to either Chris, Ian or myself in writing would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Anthony Johnstone

Secretary.
